Recreational Program

Ages 5 & up

Our recreational program challenges both the body and mind, and contributes to an overall healthy lifestyle. All students begin in a once-weekly class, during which they build a foundation of proper technique while learning their first softshoe steps.

In their first year, beginners learn basic jig and reel steps, as well as the fundamentals of performance. Beginning in March, dancers have many opportunities to step out for family and friends at the Washington, D.C., St. Patrick's Day Parade, local performances, and our end-of-year ceili.

New dancers also have the option of competing in Irish dancing at our annual local competition, the Comhaltas Irish Dance Festival. Run entirely by volunteers from local schools, this feis ("fesh") is a great introduction to competition.

Recreational students who prefer a low-pressure environment are able to attend once-weekly classes from Beginner to Advanced Beginner and Intermediate levels. Those who want more can add other weekly classes and fitness programs.
