At what age can my child begin Irish dance lessons? At the Duffy School, we offer a Tir na-nOg class for 3-4 year olds. This class teaches the basic movements of Irish dance while exploring music and stories from Irish culture.
Our regular classes are for dancers 5 and up.
Do you offer classes year round? Our school season runs in tandem with the public school year, September through June. We also offer summer classes and camps.
Can my dancer try a class before I commit to a full year?We always allow dancers to try their first class for free before registering for a full year. We also periodically offer abridged beginner sessions to introduce young dancers to Irish dance.
What fees are associated with Irish dancing? The Duffy School charges a reasonable quarterly rate for classes, and classes are priced according to length. There is also a one-time registration fee for all new dancers.
How long are classes?Beginner classes are 45 minutes long. Class length increases as dancers move through the levels.
How are classes organized?Classes are organized according to ability. Classes are named according to the length of the class rather than the level of the class, as classes are not necessarily divided based on competition level. Therefore, 45 Min I, II and III are classes for new beginners.
What should my child wear to dance class? We ask that students wear comfortable clothing that allows them to move freely while allowing the instructors to see their form. Shorts and a t-shirt are ideal. We ask that students not wear pants or denim of any kind, and that clothing not be too baggy.
Where can I buy dance shoes? There are a few local stores where you can purchase dance shoes. You can also purchase them online or at a local competition.
